BrandMeister DMR operating: practical examples

The BrandMeister network offers many possibilities for operating in DMR (Digital Mobile Radio). Operating in DMR is easy:

  • select your repeater and operating timeslot,
  • select your talkgroup,
  • press PTT and talk.

Before talking, there is no need to check the network status or to link the repeater to reflectors or modules with complicated key presses.

Here are some practical examples for Luxembourg (as of 2018/01/01):

LOCAL CALL on a repeater: TG 9

If you wish to operate locally on a certain repeater you can reach, use the talkgroup 9 (TG 9) on timeslot 1 (TS 1). Your signal is only repeated on the selected repeater on timeslot 1 (TS 1) and operators monitoring the repeater should hear you.

Example:

The example shows a ham working on the repeater LX0DMR. He uses the talkgroup 9 (TG 9) on timeslot 1 (TS1) because he wants to operate locally on a repeater and hams are normally monitoring timeslot 1 (TS 1) of repeaters.

LX CALL on a repeater: TG 270

If you wish to operate nationally via all the DMR repeaters in LX connected to the BrandMeister-network, make your call on any repeater connected to the network. Use timeslot 1 (TS 1) and the talkgroup 270 (TG 270). Your signal is repeated via all the DMR repeaters in LX and operators monitoring any repeater in LX should hear you.

Example:

The example shows a ham working on the repeater LX0DMR. He uses the talkgroup 270 (TG 270) on timeslot 1 (TS1) because that talkgroup is static on timeslot 1 (TS 1) of any DMR repeater in LX.

His signal is repeated

  • via all DMR repeaters in LX on timeslot 1 (TS 1): LX0DMR, LX0DMX, LX0DRR, LX0NSR, LX0RU,
  • via hotspots monitoring the talkgroup 270 (TG 270),
  • via foreign repeaters where the talkgroup 270 (TG 270) was activated dynamically.

If the ham had worked by error on timeslot 2 (TS 2) of LX0DMR, his signal would nevertheless have been repeated

  • via all DMR repeaters in LX on timeslot 1 (TS 1): LX0DMR (both timeslots busy), LX0DMX, LX0DRR, LX0NSR, LX0RU,
  • via hotspots monitoring the talkgroup 270 (TG 270),
  • via foreign repeaters where the talkgroup 270 (TG 270) was activated dynamically.

CALL FROM ABROAD to LX: TG 270

If you wish to make contact to LX, make your call on any repeater connected to the BrandMeister-network. Use timeslot 2 (TS 2, check the recommendations abroad) and the talkgroup 270 (TG 270). Your signal is repeated via all the DMR repeaters in LX and operators monitoring any repeater in LX should hear you.

Example:

The example shows a ham in Belgium near Oostende working on the repeater ON0OST. He uses the talkgroup 270 (TG 270) on timeslot 2 (TS 2) because that talkgroup is not static on repeaters in Belgium so it can be linked dynamically which should be done preferentially on timeslot 2 (TS 2). The dynamically linked talkgroup remains active for 15 minutes after the last PTT press of the ham on ON0OST using the talkgroup 270 (TG 270).

His signal is repeated

  • via the local repeater on timeslot 2 (TS 2), in this case ON0OST,
  • via all DMR repeaters in LX on timeslot 1 (TS 1): LX0DMR, LX0DMX, LX0DRR, LX0NSR, LX0RU,
  • via hotspots monitoring the talkgroup 270 (TG 270),
  • via foreign repeaters where the talkgroup 270 (TG 270) was activated dynamically.

If the ham had worked by error on timeslot 1 (TS 1) of ON0OST, his signal would nevertheless have been transmitted to the talkgroup 270 (TG 270).

LX LARU CALL on a repeater: TG 2707

The LARU is the only operator of DMR-mono-mode repeaters in LX. The advantage of these repeaters is, that they are not mixed or multi mode and DMR is the only mode available permanently so that other modes cannot take over the repeater and disrupt your attempt to communicate.

If you wish to transmit via the repeaters operated by the LARU, make your call on any LARU repeater Using timeslot 1 (TS 1) and the talkgroup 2707 (TG 2707). Your signal is repeated via all the LARU DMR repeaters in LX and operators monitoring any of these repeaters in LX should hear you.

Example:

The example shows a ham near Ettelbrück working on the repeater LX0NSR. He uses the talkgroup 2707 (TG 2707) on timeslot 1 (TS 1) because that talkgroup is static on LARU repeaters.

His signal is repeated

  • via all LARU DMR repeaters in LX on timeslot 1 (TS 1): LX0DMR, LX0DMX, LX0NSR
  • via hotspots monitoring the talkgroup 2707 (TG 2707),
  • via foreign repeaters where the talkgroup 2707 (TG 2707) was activated dynamically.

If the ham had worked by error on timeslot 2 (TS 2) of LX0NSR, his signal would nevertheless have been repeated

  • via all LARU DMR repeaters in LX on timeslot 1 (TS 1): LX0DMR, LX0DMX, LX0NSR (both timeslots busy),
  • via hotspots monitoring the talkgroup 2707 (TG 2707),
  • via foreign repeaters where the talkgroup 2707 (TG 2707) was activated dynamically.

CALL to Saarland / Rheinland-Pfalz on a repeater: TG 2625

If you wish to contact foreign repeaters via an LX repeater, make your call on any repeater using timeslot 2 (TS 2) and the corresponding foreign talkgroup. Your signal is repeated via your local repeater and all the foreign repeaters where the used talkgroup is active. Operators monitoring any of these repeaters should hear you.

Example:

The example shows a ham near Luxembourg-City working on the repeater LX0DMR. He uses the talkgroup 2625 (TG 2625) on timeslot 2 (TS 2) because that talkgroup is not static on repeaters in Luxembourg so it can be linked dynamically which should be done preferentially on timeslot 2 (TS 2). The dynamically linked talkgroup remains active for 15 minutes after the  last PTT press of the ham on LX0DMR using the talkgroup 2625 (TG 2625).

His signal is repeated

  • via the local repeater on timeslot 2 (TS 2), in this case LX0DMR,
  • via german repeaters in Saarland and Rheinland-Pfalz, where the talkgroup 2625 (TG 2625) is static.
  • via hotspots monitoring the talkgroup 2625 (TG 2625),
  • via any repeater where the talkgroup 2625 (TG 2625) was activated dynamically.

If the ham had worked by error on timeslot 1 (TS 1) of LX0DMR, his signal would nevertheless have been transmitted to the talkgroup 2625 (TG 2625).
